Spam accounts created
Hi Eric! We just had a bunch of spam accounts created through our locallygrown.net site. How can we delete a mass of accounts, and possibly prevent this through tighter security on our end?

Anyone can create an account at your market (and you do want it that way) but that means sometimes spammers try to create thousands of accounts with the hopes of leaving comment spam all over your site.
Of course, your market doesn’t work that way and there’s nothing harmful they can do after creating an account. It can take a while for them to realize that and move on to other sites, though.
Every few days I go through and clean things up, and block those particular spammers from coming back. They tend to be quite easy to spot once I see the pattern. This particular spammer was more intense than most but it’ll be cleaned up soon.
In the meantime you can ignore the accounts. They’re not hurting anything.

Thanks Eric,
What caught me off guard this time is someone called me and let me know we were sending them spam. Evidently it was someone who’s email had been used to create an account. If I’m hearing you correctly, you go in and delete these accounts if you can identify the spam trend? If not, it would be really great if there was a way for us to select multiple accounts from the “manage customer” page so there isn’t so many accounts with stolen emails and (what I presume is) a porn site as as customer name. Let me know if i should start deleting, or if there’s an easier way to bulk delete.
Thanks for your help with this and unfortunate it keeps happening!

Weird that someone would call you about it -- is there anyone on the internet that doesn't get spam using their email address?
Anyway, I do go through and delete well over 99% of the junk accounts. I also add filters to prevent repeat violators from adding more, though that's a manual process and can take me a few days to get in place. I have added filters for this latest batch, and you shouldn't see them again.
