description changes
A customer placed an order for an item (it is there when I need
to add an item to someones order so I can see what is in their
shopping cart--I just forgot to disable it)
no item just way to get into cart
I changed the description of the item to
request for red/dino kale
Later when I printed the label it said
no item just way to get into cart
If I open the adobe invoice it says
no item just way to get into cart
If I select the same order I just opened and select edit it
says
request for red/dino kale
If I go to View open orders for a single grower
And select the grower (in this case CSA Farmers Market)
It says
request for red/dino kale
Can you please look into this. It is invoice 290105
I've warned everyone about changing product descriptions during an
order cycle. I tell them to make a new product.

The item name is set when the order is placed. If you change the item name later, it will not retroactively go back and change the orders.
This is to prevent (an extreme example) a customer from ordering "Filet Mignon" and then a grower later changing it to "Large Rock".

Hi Eric,
That is good.
What I don't understand is why it changed in some spots and didn't change
in others.
If the farmer goes to look at his/her list under "view open orders for a
single grower" it shows it as the changed item, not as the item the
customer ordered.
It just confuses me. We harvest by using "view Open Orders for a single
grower". We use that list, we paste it onto a spreadsheet and check the
items off. Than we add the labels to the items.
Thanks

It does show it as the original item name down below. Up above, it shows a combined view, where it adds up the items. Since the two things with the different names are really the same item in the system, they are lumped together there, and shown using the current name for that item.
I'm confused what you're doing with these non-item items. What problem are you trying to solve with them?

Hi Eric,
The "non item" use. I know it is a little weird, but periodically I will get a call from a distribution site that says a customer came to pick up an order and it wasn't there. Come to find out the customer did not completely check out and on phone they want to know what they ordered. I cannot see what is in their cart unless I put an item into my cart and at the end swap to that customers name.
This order cycle a customer was emailing me because they were having problems on their end, they thought it might be on the website end. I guided them the best I could via email. They did not completely place an order but I see they have 3 things in their cart. I wanted to look at what they have in their cart and the only way I can do that is by putting an item into my cart and than switching to them at the end of the check out. I did email them to let them know the order did not go through and volunteered to complete the order for them. By that time the market will probably be closed and the only way I can complete the order for them is by opening the market momentarily and by putting an item in my cart and than switching to their name at the checkout to complete their order.
Does that explain why periodically I use the shopping item I call a "non item" or did I make it confusing. If there is an easier way to do what I periodically need to do and I'm missing the boat please let me know.
Thanks
Marian Listwak

I see. You can add any item to your cart, and then remove it again when you're finalizing the order placement. You don't need to make a special non-item just for this. If I recall, you had several "non-items" in your product listings that I didn't understand.
Be aware that if you place orders after the market has closed, especially if you've already sent the harvest email to the growers, then the growers may not realize there are more things to harvest. Yes, they could see it on the website, but many growers (at my market, anyway) use the email, or print out the labels right then, and never check back. For this reason, I do not allow late orders or order cancellations at my market (although customers are able to contact growers directly about cancellations if they choose).
